Lesson activities
Starter Activity
Introduce the session with the lesson objectives.
Explain to the class what determination is using slide 3.
Group activity: Working in small groups pupils must write down all the ways they have shown determination. Each group must feedback to the class.
Main Activity
Activity: Ask pupils to write sentences to themselves about what they can say to keep themselves determined. Encourage them to think about situations they need to be determined in and how to keep positive and not give up.
Class activity: Ask pupils to choose their best determination quote or sentence. They must write it on a piece of paper and decorate it. Each pupil can explain theirs to the class and stick it on the determination wall.
Explain to the class why determination is important using slide 7.
Show the video of kid president on slide 8.
Ask pupils how they can be more determined and initiate a whole class discussion. Show the examples on slide 9.
Pairs discussion: Ask pupils to discuss if they know anyone who has shown determination? It could be a family member or someone in your sports team. Invite pupils to share their answers with the class.
Explain why determination is important using slide 8.
Active learning: Ask pupils to get into small groups. They must complete a balance challenge. How long can they stand on 1 leg for as a team. If one of them wobbles and falls, then they are out! Repeat this 2-3 times.
Video: Show the video about determination to the class and explain how they can be more determined in life.
Plenary
Determination pledge: Ask pupils to make a pledge to be more determined. They can make a card and decorate it.
Read the poem about being your best to the class.
