Lesson activities
Starter Activity
Explain the lesson objectives to the class.
Group discussion: Ask pupils to discuss why we need to eat and drink. Initiate a whole class discussion.

Main Activity
Group discussion: Ask pupils to discuss what a balanced diet is and talk through their answers.
Knowing your Foods Group activity: Ask pupils to write down all the different foods they can think of using the food groups categories. Invite pupils to share their answers. Teachers will facilitate learning based around correcting and embedding learning from answers provided.
Explain and run through what sugar can do to our bodies using slide 10,11 and 12.
Pairs activity: Ask pupils to create a healthy dinner using a plate template on slide 18. Encourage them to think about all the food groups, sugar and drinks when designing their plate. Share the plates of food and ask children to explain what plates they created and why
Plenary
Hydration discussion: In small groups as pupils to spend 2-3 minutes discussing why our bodies need water and other drinks. Talk through about the importance of drinking water and the consequences.
Reflection: Ask pupils to say 3 things they have learnt today and what they will do different to eat better in the future.
