Supports pupils to understand how sleep, either good or bad, can impact their mental and physical health.
Equipment and Resources
Paper, pen, and colours.
Introduce the session with the lesson objectives.
Explain what sleep is using slides 3 & 4.
Group discussion: Ask pupils to discuss what happens if we don’t get enough sleep and how it makes them feel. Initiate a whole class discussion.
Explain what a lack of sleep can cause using slide 6.
Explain all the different things that can affect our sleep using slide 7.
Storyboard activity: Ask pupils to think about their bedtime routine and to draw and write down a storyboard of evening activities they do every evening. Pupils can compare these with each other.

Sleep scenarios group activity: In groups ask pupils to talk about the three sleep scenarios on slides 10-12 and write down how they could help each person sleep better.
Dreams activity: Ask pupils to draw a picture of their favourite dreams and to explain what happened in them and why they liked them. They can share their dreams with a partner.
Sleep song activity: Working as a group, pupils must write a short song to help remind other children about all the top tips to get a good night sleep. They must be prepared to perform it to the class.
Reflection time: Ask pupils to think about how they can build relaxation activities into their week.
