Lesson activities
Starter Activity
Introduce the session with the lesson objectives.
Explain what sleep is using slides 3 & 4.
Group discussion: Ask pupils to discuss why we need sleep. Gather feedback from each group and read through slide 6.
Main Activity
Pairs activity: Ask pupils to talk about their bedtime routines with a partner. They must write down what they do in an evening as part of their routine and compare it with each other. Invite pupils to share their routines with the class.
Explain that there are different things which can affect our sleep using slide 8.
Class discussion: Ask pupils to talk about how they feel if they don’t get enough sleep. Explain what happens to our body if we don’t get enough sleep using slide 10.
Show the class video about sleep.
Share the did you know facts on slides 12 & 13 with the class.
Group discussion: Ask the class to discuss what we mean by rest and gather feedback from pupils. Use slide 15 to explain what rest is.
Group activity: Ask pupils to write down all the things they could do to help them relax. Share the examples on slide 17.
Plenary
Restful activity: Play some classical music and ask pupils to focus on their breathing techniques using slide 18.
Activity: Ask pupils to create a relaxation card for something they could do. They can draw a picture of the activity and use it to help them relax.
Reflection time: Ask pupils to think about how they can build relaxation activities into their week.
