Lesson activities
Starter Activity
Introduce the session with the lesson objectives.
Explain what energy is and where it comes from using slides 3 and 4.
Pairs discussion: Ask pupils to discuss all the questions on slide 5 in pairs.
Explain what we need energy for using slide 6.
Main Activity
Group activity: Working in a group, pupils can write down all the activities they can think of which require them to use energy e.g. running. They can put them into different categories.
Pairs activity: In pairs ask pupils to perform each of the activities on slide 8 and rank which ones use the most and the least amounts of energy. Ask pupils to feedback to the class.
Explain what things affect our energy levels and what an energy balance is using slides 9 and 10.
Plenary
Energy scenario activity: Ask pupils to work in pairs and to read through each of the scenarios on slides 12 to 15. Pupils must decide what they would do in each scenario and talk about how it would affect their energy levels.
Reflection time: Ask pupils to think about 3 things they have learnt today and what they will do differently this week.
